San Francisco’s Chinatown is not only the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, but it is the oldest Chinatown in North America. From its busy seafood markets to its medicinal herb shops, San Francisco’s Chinatown offers an up-close glimpse at Chinese-American culture and food. There’s no better place to experience Asian-American culture, sample dim sum, sip a Mai Tai, purchase fresh fish and vegetables, or visit a fortune cookie factory.
Not all walking tours are created equal, and All About Chinatown tops our list thanks to its local tour guides who have in-depth knowledge of the area’s history, plus long-standing relationships with store and restaurant owners.
All About Chinatown Tours This cultural, historical, and culinary walking tour of Chinatown is unforgettable. It includes a look into architectural history, an herbal pharmacy, and a fortune cookie factory.
Adrien Gombeaud and David LeFranc, a French journalist and photographer, took a tour with me in Chinatown in May 2016.
These journalists traveled around the world to visit London, New York, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and San Francisco and their article is 12 pages long. No press article has ever been written about a trip around the world such as this one.
I was honored to have been included in their visit because they were interested in the history of the Chinese in San Francisco.
